Joey Bosa held out of practice because he was “a little tight”

The Chargers don’t have long to get Joey Bosa ready to play.

And the fact he’s already missing time doesn’t help.

The just-signed first-round pick has already missed his first day of regular season practice, with the kind of soft-tissue injury that seems common for guys coming off holdouts.

He was a little tight today, so we decided to hold him out,” Chargers coach Mike McCoy said, via Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The team said it was taking his progress day-to-day. But he hasn’t practiced in full pads yet, since missing the entire training camp and preseason because of the contract impasse that just ended last week.

Whether such injuries such as Bosa’s are more common, or whether we just notice them more often when a guy hasn’t been around his team, is a question for a doctor. But it doesn’t help the perception that no one truly won the long tug-of-war between the Chargers and the guy they wanted most of all in this year’s draft.
