Jim Harbaugh: “We’ll do what’s best for the team” if no seed is at stake on Sunday

The Chargers locked up a postseason berth with Saturday’s blowout victory over the Patriots, but at this point, their seed is unsettled.

Entering Week 18, Los Angeles is the No. 6 seed. If the Ravens win and the Steelers win on Saturday, that will lock in the Chargers at that spot long before kickoff of Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders. That could potentially induce Los Angeles to rest some starters in Week 18 in preparation for the playoffs.

But if the Steelers lose, the Chargers would have a chance to move up to No. 5.

Via Thuc Nhi Nguyen of the L.A. Times, head coach Jim Harbaugh said in his Monday press conference that “the plan is to win” and move up to the fifth seed. But Harbaugh didn’t divulge what he might do if no seed is at stake.

“We’ll do what’s best for the team,” Harbaugh said.

The Chargers have won their last two games to get to 10-6. The club has won at least 11 games just once since 2010 — in 2018, when they went 12-4 and made it to the divisional round.

As things currently stand, the No. 6 Chargers would travel to Baltimore to face the No. 3 Ravens in the wild card round, setting up another Harbaugh Bowl.
