The Jets announced the signing of veteran running back Antone Smith on Tuesday.
Smith appeared in five games with the Bears last season. Before that he played five seasons as a third-down back and special teams player with the Falcons.
Smith, 30, has played in 64 career games. He has four rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns.
The Jets had to add a running back because Bernard Pierce was placed on injured reserve. Pierce wasn’t able to do much in camp due to a hamstring injury.
Smith becomes the eighth running back in Jets camp, though Matt Forte has been injured and four of the eight have never played in a regular season game.
