Jets rookie cornerback Mory Bamba impressed during last Friday’s preseason opener, but the undrafted free agent’s bid to make the team has hit an obstacle.
Bamba was seen working out on a side field with a brace on his right knee on Monday and head coach Aaron Glenn said at a press conference that the rookie is set to miss a couple weeks as a result of the injury.
Bamba, who played at BYU in college, had five tackles and four passes defensed against the Bucs last week.
If Glenn’s timeline is accurate, that will be Bamba’s final game action of the preseason and it will cost him playing time he may need to be on the initial 53-man roster. Nahshon Wright, Brandon Stephens, Azareye’h Thomas, Jarvis Brownlee, second-round pick DeAngelo Ponds, Qwan’tez Stiggers, Samuel Womack, and Tre Brown are also in the team’s cornerback group.
