Quarterback Lamar Jackson’s availability for Sunday’s game against the Falcons is firmly in question as he deals with an ankle sprain.
But the Ravens have an experienced backup in Tyler Huntley, who is set to start if Jackson isn’t ready for Week 5.
Huntley has bounced around a bit, but most of his starts have come for the Ravens since he entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020. While Jackson is one-of-one, Huntley’s ability and skillset translates to offensive continuity.
“I think the system of our offense and what we do does not have to change a whole lot,” head coach Jesse Minter said Wednesday when asked how much the offense varies with Huntley instead of Jackson at QB. “A lot of the plays, especially whether it’s when we are under center and running a lot of those types of things, [Huntley] can do all that. He can make a lot of those same plays.
“Obviously, Lamar’s magic is what it is. He is the best quarterback in the league for a reason. But we have a lot of confidence in ‘Snoop’ [Huntley], if that is the way it goes, to be able to really run our offense, to get the ball to our playmakers, move those guys around, find ways to get them the ball, find ways to create angles and space in the run game, and I think our offense has proven that we will be able to do that. [I’m] excited about that if that is the way it goes for him to go out there and play really well.”
After Jackson was injured, Huntley completed 8-of-9 passes for 63 yards and rushed four times for 16 yards in Sunday’s win over the Titans.
In five appearances with two starts for Baltimore last year, Huntley completed 77.6 percent of his throws for 426 yards with two touchdowns and no picks.
Baltimore is 5-6 all-time with Huntley as a starter.
