The last time the Cowboys made a coaching change, team owner Jerry Jones took his time before announcing that Jason Garrett would not be signing a new contract with the team.
Mike McCarthy is the head coach on an expiring contract this time and recent reports have indicated that other teams may be looking to speak with him about their head coaching vacancies once the regular season comes to an end. During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones said that he doesn’t feel any pressure to move more quickly this time around.
“I’m not under any unusual time frame. At all,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com.
Jones has thrown plenty of compliments McCarthy’s way in recent weeks without giving any indication about how much the team will push to keep the coach in Dallas. Tuesday was more of the same with Jones saying that he likes “the job that he’s done” while continuing to decline any discussion of the plan for next week.
