Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson didn’t mince words after Sunday’s 19-9 loss to the Rams when it came to his role in the offense.
Wilson said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN, that he’d “like to be involved, love to make an impact on the game” after being targeted three times during the first 55 minutes of the game. Wilson caught four late passes and ended the day with six catches for 54 yards.
Wilson’s comments came a week after he was caught having an animated sideline discussion with receivers coach Shawn Jefferson during a win over Jacksonville and he added on Sunday that “people see it differently” when it comes to how often the ball comes his way. Wilson didn’t specify who sees it differently, but interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said on Monday that he agrees with the receiver.
“At the end of the day, we’ve got to find ways to get Garrett the ball more often,” Ulbrich said, via SNY. “He’s one of the best players on our team, if not one of the best players in this league, especially at his position.”
Ulbrich noted that coverage can dictate where the ball goes before adding that the team still has to do more to make sure Wilson stays involved. That will only be Ulbrich’s issue for a couple more weeks and it will be one of many things for the next Jets coach to sort out.
