On Tuesday, Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said that he anticipates veteran linebacker James Harrison returning to the team for the 2016 season and Harrison’s agent sent said Harrison would be playing at least one more year.
Harrison seems to want to write any plans in pencil rather than ink, however. Later on Tuesday, his business and public relations manager Risa Bayalem said that her client wasn’t yet sure about his plans for next season and that it could be some time before he comes to a final decision.
“If he’s not able to give 100 percent, he wouldn’t be doing justice to himself or the Steelers or his teammates,” Bayalem said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Even if he feels he wants to come back, his age and his body are going to tell him whether that’s possible or not. His process right now is go through offseason training in Arizona. If his body is where he feels it needs to be, he’ll proceed.”
Harrison is signed for 2016 at a salary of $1.25 million and cap hit of $1.5 million, which likely isn’t a big enough charge to force the Steelers to push for a quicker call about returning for a 14th season.
