Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey was projected to go very early in the first round of the draft before setting foot in Indianapolis for the Scouting Combine and nothing that happened on Monday will work against him hitting that projection down the line.

Ramsey starred on Monday by posting a 4.42 40-yard dash, a vertical jump of 41.5" and a broad jump of 11'3" while the defensive backs were going through their workout. The latter two scores match Cal running back Daniel Lasco’s measurements for the top marks among all players at this year’s combine.

The impressive outing and Ramsey’s strong play over the last three years in Tallahassee leave little question about his athletic bona fides. The one question that teams will have to ponder about Ramsey is about where he will make the most impact in the NFL after seeing time at both safety and corner over the course of his collegiate career.

Ramsey excelled in both spots at Florida State, so that answer may turn out to be a shifting one based on situations akin to the role that Tyrann Mathieu plays for the Cardinals. Unlike Mathieu, Ramsey won’t have to wait a few rounds to find out which team wants to deploy him in the back end of their defense.
