The Jaguars announced that Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa is part of a group of draft prospects visiting with the team on Tuesday and he isn’t the only one that could be a possible selection with the fifth overall pick.
According to multiple reports, the Jaguars are also meeting with Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey, UCLA linebacker Myles Jack, Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple, Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland, Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves and Notre Dame tackle Ronnie Stanley. All five players are generally considered to have a good chance to come off the board in the top half of the first round.
All of the players play spots where the Jaguars are looking to upgrade from the 2015 season, although the recent addition of Kelvin Beachum as a free agent may make Stanley less likely to be a player they tab in the first round. The Jags have also signed cornerback Prince Amukamara and safety Tashaun Gipson, although Ramsey’s ability and versatility gives him an upside that will be tough to resist if he’s still available.
Jack would present an interesting decision for the Jaguars if he’s on the board with the fifth pick. At full health, he’d be an ideal fit for a defense short on playmakers. The knee injury that wiped out much of his 2015 season has created some doubts about how high he’ll go on draft day.
Whichever direction they go, it looks like Jacksonville is well positioned to make the kind of defensive upgrade they’ve been targeting this offseason.
