Some eyebrows were raised when the Saints spent their big free agent money (six years, $54 million) on safety Jairus Byrd.

But Byrd just made the kind of play the Saints were banking on, stopping a promising Falcons drive cold.

After Falcons receiver Julio Jones took a quick route inside the 10, Byrd stripped the ball away, and the fumble rolled into the end zone for a touchback.

The Saints have moved the ball well between the 20s, but have had to settle for a pair of Shayne Graham field goals and a 6-0 lead after the first quarter.
