The Jaguars have thrown in towel on their attempt to find the talent that made Brian Robiskie the 36th overall pick of the 2009 NFL draft.
Mark Long of the Associated Press reports that the Jaguars have released the wide receiver, along with tight end Colin Cloherty. Robiskie joined the team off of waivers last November when the Browns, who drafted Robiskie, decided that he wasn’t showing enough to merit further employment. Robiskie never played with the Jags last season and he was inactive again on Sunday.
Robiskie has just 39 catches in his career. Once Cecil Shorts and Kevin Elliot, who dressed on Sunday, passed him in the Jaguars’ pecking order, the writing for this move was on the wall. Robiskie’s father Terry is the Falcons’ receiving coach, although there doesn’t seem to be a spot for him in Atlanta. He could look further south in Florida to the Dolphins as a possibility, but Robiskie hasn’t shown enough to suggest he’s an improvement on even that modest group of pass catchers.
The Jaguars signed tight end Stephen Spach and offensive lineman Herb Taylor. Signing Taylor, who was with Green Bay this summer, might suggest that injuries suffered by Uche Nwaneri, Eben Britton and Cameron Bradfield will cause some or all of them to miss time.
