Jacoby Jones is off in pursuit of his next team.
Released by the Texans on Tuesday, Jones spent Thursday checking out a potential landing spot. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Jones visited the Panthers in Charlotte.
The Panthers could use Jones as a punt returner. Armanti Edwards averaged just 5.5 yards per return last season, five yards less than Jones’ mark for 2011 and Edwards doesn’t have three punt return touchdowns on his resume. At receiver, the Panthers lost Legedu Naanee in free agency which leaves David Gettis and rookie Joe Adams as the leading contenders to play alongside Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. That would give Jones a pretty good chance of catching some passes from Cam Newton if he wound up in Carolina.
Jones had 31 catches for 512 yards and two touchdowns last season.
