The Ravens got wide receiver Jacoby Jones back in the lineup in Week Six for the first time since the season opener and he offered a reminder of what his speed brings to the table before the day was out.
Jones ran past Packers corner Sam Shields for an 11-yard touchdown and added a 31-yard catch during his limited playing time on offense. Coach John Harbaugh said that the team wants to see more of that in the offense moving forward and hinted at an expanded role for the wideout in the weeks to come.
“It was great,” Harbaugh said, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. “Jacoby gave us a speed element out there, and he’ll probably play more and more offensively as we go forward.”
The Packers focused their pass defense on wide receiver Torrey Smith, a strategy that worked well enough for them to go home with a victory even though other Ravens receivers were able to make plays over the course of the afternoon. Teams will likely follow suit until the plays those other receivers make force them to change their approach. Jones’ speed could be a way to make that happen, although the Ravens will have to do a better job of protecting Joe Flacco to take major strides over last week’s performance.
