The season ends tomorrow, but there’s still time for teams to put players on injured reserve.

That’s precisely what the Chiefs have done tonight, shutting down running back Jackie Battle the night before the finale in Denver. His roster spot has been filled by running back Shaun Draughn.

Battle, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2007, rushed for 597 yards and added another 68 receiving yards. His role expanded after Jamaal Charles tore an ACL in Week Two.

Battle is scheduled to be a unrestricted free agent in March 2012. He had been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Broncos with a foot injury.
