Robert Griffin III is this year’s reminder that we don’t really know anything in the draft process until we get very close to the draft.
Like Cam Newton in 2010, Griffin was virtually an afterthought heading into his final college season. Even halfway through the season, it took a while for analysts to wrap their heads around Griffin as a surefire top-five pick.
Griffin knows he wasn’t well respected before 2011 and he uses that as motivation as he prepares for the biggest business trip of his life. With a little prompting from Mel Kiper during an ESPN Radio appearance Wednesday, Griffin talked about his journey.
“You never want to be looked at as a sure thing in life because it can rob you of your motivation,” Griffin said. “The guys that did have me, like you said, as a wide receiver like Mr. Todd McShay before the season, that just motivates me to continue to go out there to be the best. That’s how I’ll prepare myself.”
Kiper is currently wanted in Connecticut for involuntary ESPN-on-ESPN crime.
