Giants place Corey Webster on injured reserve

Cornerback Corey Webster’s time with the Giants may have come to an end on Tuesday.

The team placed Webster on injured reserve, confirming that the veteran would not return this season after missing the last six games with an ankle injury. Webster only played in four games this year, missing a stretch earlier in the season with a groin injury, and wasn’t nearly as effective as he was in his better days.

Those days are further and further in the rearview mirror as Webster also struggled throughout the 2012 season. He’s signed for $1 million for next season, but it is a voidable year and the Giants will likely be moving on as they try to come back from a losing season.

The Giants promoted wide receiver Julian Talley from the practice squad. Talley went to UMass and he could be pressed into service if the senior UMass alum on the roster, Victor Cruz, isn’t cleared to play after suffering a concussion and knee sprain in last Sunday’s 23-0 loss to the Seahawks.
