The Giants lost a game and a starting cornerback on Monday night.
On a Tuesday conference call, coach Tom Coughlin confirmed the initial reports that cornerback Prince Amukamara will miss the rest of the season after tearing his biceps muscle during the 40-24 thrashing the Giants received from the Colts. Coughlin said that the Giants will likely bring in a cornerback this week to go with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Zack Bowman, Jayron Hosley and Mike Harris.
Amukamara had been the Giants’ best cornerback this year and their pass defense is likely to find further struggles as he joins Walter Thurmond and Trumaine McBride on injured reserve. The team exercised the fifth-year option on his contract for the 2015 season, leaving Amukamara set to make just under $7 million next season unless he reaches agreement on an extension with the club.
Amukamara has plenty of time to rehab this offseason and has at least one other pursuit to keep him occupied until he’s ready to get back on the field.
