From Monday night to Tuesday morning, Jared Goff became ready to start

The Rams finally named No. 1 pick Jared Goff their starting quarterback and he takes over with L.A. in the thick of a chase for a playoff berth.

Making Tuesday’s announcement via multiple leaked reports that the Rams will start rookie quarterback Jared Goff against the Dolphins on Sunday even more intriguing is the fact that, on Monday night, coach Jeff Fisher declared that Goff remains the No. 2 quarterback in L.A.

So what happened between Monday night and Tuesday?

As one source put it jokingly, “I guess Jared wasn’t ready yesterday but he is today.”

The standard, as articulated by Fisher, has always been that Goff will start when he’s ready. And Fisher said nothing on Monday to suggest that Fisher has decided Goff is ready. So either Fisher secretly knew this was coming or he indeed decided between Monday and Tuesday that Goff is ready.

As PFT reported on Sunday, Goff believes he’s ready. Also, the chronic notion that Goff isn’t ready eventually will become, if it hasn’t already, a negative reflection on Goff.

It’s all positive now, with Goff getting a full week of preparation as the starter against a Miami team that has won four games in a row. The fans wanted Goff; they’ll now get him. Whether they’re happy with the move remains to be seen.
