On February 6, 2011, Ronald Reagan would have turned 100 years old. For the weekend of September 23, the folks who are running The Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration have invited all NFL, 120 NCAA college football teams, all NAIA college football teams, and 14,000 high school teams to participate in the Reagan National Football Coin Toss.

Lou Holtz, Doug Flutie, and Lynn Swann will be serving as the co-chairs of the event. According to CNN, 40 major universities have accepted the invitation, including Alabama, USC, and Texas.

“If all my players had the heart and the drive on the field that the Gipper showed in the Oval Office, we would have won every game,” Holtz said in a statement. “I want to encourage every football organization in the United States to stand together and honor the legacy of this great American, Ronald Reagan. We all could learn a thing or two from his example.”

Reagan, the 40th U.S. president, was an actor before becoming the 33rd governor of California. Reagan, who played George Gipp in Knute Rocke, All-American, died in 2004.
