Felix Jones has lost a lot of speed

Felix Jones is trying to get back into the NFL. His performance at the veteran combine today did not help his cause.

Jones ran two 40-yard dashes, one in 4.79 seconds and one in 4.85 seconds, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Those times reveal that Jones has lost a lot of speed since he came out of college and ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash at the 2008 Combine.

The Cowboys drafted Jones in the first round in 2008, and he showed promise early in his career, but he never developed into an every-down back. After five seasons with the Cowboys, he played one year in Pittsburgh in 2013 and had 48 carries for 184 yards. Last year Jones thought he’d play in the NFL, but no team signed him.

At age 27, it’s still possible that Jones will get a sniff from some team. But that 40 time is one more strike against him.
