Though we’ve become less interested in the UFL, primarily since most of you aren’t interested in the UFL, today’s events justify two UFL stories.
The Florida Tuskers, who appeared in each of the first two UFL title games, are dead. Amid persistent reports of grossly overdue final payments to players after the 2010 season, the other five may not be far behind.
For now, the Tuskers will still exist, sort of. The franchise will move to Virginia, where it will become the Destroyers, according to the Daily Press. Of course, the UFL already planned to launch a Virginia Destroyers franchise in 2011, with Doug Williams serving as G.M. He’ll still serve in that role, with Tuskers coach Jay Gruden serving as coach of the Destroyers.
The UFL will now look elsewhere for a home for its sixth franchise.
Out in the cold is Tuskers president and “owner” Joe Theismann. He reportedly will continue to serve as a consultant to the UFL.
Maybe the plan will be to ask for his advice, and then to do the opposite.
