The Falcons want to keep free agent cornerback Brent Grimes. To do so, they will have to invest a lot of money at the cornerback position with Dunta Robinson already getting paid a big salary.

Speaking at the Scouting Combine Friday, Dimitroff sounded optimistic that the team could retain Grimes.

“Those are difficult discussions to have because they are high dollar discussions,” Dimitroff said to a group of reporters after his press conference. Brent Grimes is a fine football player and we’d like to have him back. We have begun our negotiations with his representatives.

“Ben Dogra and Tom Condon are obviously accomplished agents. We’re not wasting any time with our discussions. We feel like we can come to a good conclusion to this negotiation.”

We guessed last week that Grimes would ultimately get the franchise tag. Dimitroff recognized that the franchise tag is a consideration.
