Falcons add Emory Jones to practice squad to simulate Jayden Daniels

It’s tough to find a quarterback who can mimic and emulate Washington’s Jayden Daniels, but the Falcons are trying to do just that this week.

With a matchup against the Commanders upcoming on Sunday Night Football, Atlanta announced on Thursday that the team has signed former Florida, Arizona State, and Cincinnati quarterback Emory Jones to the practice squad.

Via Tori McElhaney of the Falcons’ website, Jones is in the building to play on the scout team, as he can better simulate Daniels’ skillset.

Having been benched for Michael Penix Jr., veteran Kirk Cousins or No. 3 quarterback Nathan Peterman — who’s also on the practice squad — would normally handle scout-team QB duties. But neither Cousins nor Peterman move around like Daniels, making it much more difficult for them to give a proper scout-team look.

Jones spent some time with the Ravens during the offseason program and training camp after going undrafted out of Cincinnati. He also signed with the UFL’s DC Defenders to play for them next year.
