Eagles so desperate that Jake Scott is starting

How thin is the Eagles’ offensive line? So thin that Jake Scott, who has spent all year on his couch, will start at right guard today, just six days after signing with Philadelphia.

Although players don’t usually step in off the street and into the starting lineup, it’s not surprising that Scott is a starter for the Eagles. Before he was released this year Scott had been a consistent starter for several season, with both the Colts and the Titans, and the Eagles are in desperate need of help on the offensive line. Scott is an upgrade over Danny Watkins, who is active but will begin the game on the bench.

So Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles will be protected by a guy who just showed up. And, sadly for Philadelphia, that probably means he’ll get better protection than Michael Vick has had this season.
