On Tuesday, the team decided that Chas Henry was no longer their punter. Exclamation point.
The Eagles announced that they have released Henry and signed Mat McBriar to a two-year contract to take his place on the roster. Henry beat out McBriar for the punting job during training camp and the preseason, but the team obviously decided that the grass was greener on the other side of that original decision.
Henry has punted 16 times in the first three games for a net average of 38 yards per kick, a little more than a yard above his average as a rookie in 2011. Henry had two punts downed inside the 20.
McBriar spent the last eight years with the Cowboys, who did not re-sign him as a free agent after the season. He made two Pro Bowls while with Dallas and was the second-team Associated Press All-Pro punter in 2006 and 2010.
