The Dwayne Jarrett era has ended in Canada. In the immortal words of that dude from Stripes: “There was one?”
Jarrett, a much-hyped USC receiver who slid to round two in 2007 and then later slid out of the NFL in 2010, has “retired” from the CFL’s Saskatchewan RoughRiders, according to the Regina Leader-Post.
The wideout, who joined the team last month, missed all of the team’s rookie camp due to “immigration and travel” issues. He then arrived for training camp on Saturday and injured his foot on Sunday.
“The deal with his foot was we didn’t think he would recover and he didn’t think he would either,’' coach Corey Chamblin said. “I can’t tell exactly what the injury was with his foot. He decided to retire and we thought it was in his best interest to do that. If he has interest in coming back, that’s OK with us.’'
Chamblin said that the door has been left open for a possible return, which would mean Jarrett really hasn’t retired.
Jarrett’s NFL career ended after the Panthers cut him following a second DUI arrest, and in light of a chronic inability to perform at an acceptable level.
Maybe he “retired” from the NFL, too.
