Drake Maye is skeptical of the moon landing

Sunday’s win at Buffalo was one small step for Maye, one giant leap for the Patriots.

It’s fitting, then, that New England quarterback Drake Maye spent some time the next day expressing skepticism about the moon landing.

“I don’t know about the moon, you know. I think I can see back in the day why we would put on the mask if we went there, but I’m not really sure 200 percent if we went there or not,” Maye said in an appearance on WEEI, via Boston 25. “I wouldn’t say I’m leaning one way or the other. I just know I’m a little bit skeptical.”

Maye added that he took a class at North Carolina about conspiracy theories.

“They studied Hitler being alive and ‘are birds real?,’ some of the classic ones that you hear about,” Maye said.

The “are birds real?” conspiracy theory was a spoof on conspiracy theories generally. (Hopefully, they covered that in the class Maye took. Along with whether Tar Heels actually have tar on their heels.)

As to Maye’s skepticism that we put a man on the moon, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman chimed in on Twitter, saying “I quite literally have the receipts.”

Maye’s comments are a reflection of post-truth America. Facts no longer matter. The only thing that’s relevant is what a given person believes.
