Buccaneers running back Doug Martin had a setback in his recovery from his hamstring injury, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said Wednesday.
That means Martin is out for at least this week’s game vs. the 49ers. He hasn’t played since Sept. 18, when he left after seven carries in a loss at Arizona. The Bucs had been hoping he’d be able to return after their bye week and play against the 49ers, who have the league’s worst rush defense and are allowing opponents to run for more than 174 yards per game.
The Bucs had to place Martin’s primary backup, Charles Sims, on injured reserve before their last game. With Martin still out, Jacquizz Rodgers likely will start his second consecutive game this week.
Rodgers signed with the Bucs Sept. 13. He ran 30 times for 101 yards in the Bucs’ win at Carolina on Oct. 10.
