After Charlie Weis was fired as head coach at Kansas last year, there was talk that he might become an NFL offensive coordinator. But Weis wasn’t hired this year and believes his coaching career has come to an end.
Weis told the South Bend Tribune that at age 58, he has accepted that it’s time for him to call it quits.
“I think it’s highly doubtful that I will ever coach again,” Weis said.
Weis did indicate that his wife isn’t necessarily on board with him just sitting around the house, however.
“I’ve been driving my wife nuts,” he said. “I think she’s ready for me to do something — anything.”
As a college head coach at Notre Dame and Kansas, Weis was a failure. But he had a good track record as an NFL offensive coordinator, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get a job offer to work on an NFL staff again. But it sounds like Weis has already decided that his answer to such an offer would be no. He’s out of the coaching business.
