Both Ravens running back Derrick Henry and Bills quarterback Josh Allen have scored six rushing touchdowns through three games. Via NBC Sports research, they each have a chance to tie the record for the most rushing touchdowns through the first four games of a season.
The current mark is nine, shared by Hall of Famer Jim Brown (1958), Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith (1995), and Stephen Davis (1999).
So it’s three to tie, and four to beat the record.
Henry’s opportunity comes in his first game against his former teams, the Titans. Allen’s comes in the first home game in the new Buffalo stadium against their biggest rivals, the Patriots.
If Henry scores at least two, he’ll take over fourth place on the list of all-time games with multiple touchdowns. He’s tied with Hall of Famer Randy Moss at 37 such games. Smith had 39, Hall of Famer LaDanian Tomlinson had 44, and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice had 46.
A pair of rushing touchdowns also would allow Henry to match Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk (Colts and Rams) and Hall of Famer Marcus Allen (Raiders and Chiefs) with 40 or more rushing touchdowns with multiple teams.
There are a lot of Hall of Famers mentioned in this blurb. Inevitably, Henry and Allen will have that distinction attached to their names, too.
