At some point, the Lions’ injuries on defense were bound to catch up with them. And that point is today.
The Lions already had more defensive players on injured reserve than any other team in the NFL, and they suffered three more big ones today against the Bills: Starting cornerback Carlton Davis left with what appeared to be a broken jaw. Backup cornerback Khalil Dorsey entered to replace Davis and suffered what appeared to be a very serious leg injury. And then defensive lineman Alim McNeill, who entering today was the Lions’ best healthy defensive player, exited with a knee injury.
The result is the Lions have no chance against Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the NFL’s leading MVP candidate. Late in the third quarter, Allen has 292 yards and a touchdown passing, plus 40 yards and two touchdowns running.
The Bills have a 35-14 lead in a game that looks like it’s going to be a Buffalo blowout.
