David Tepper: We are totally confident in Bryce Young pick

The Panthers decided that Frank Reich was not the right head coach for them after 11 games, but they have not made a similar judgment about quarterback Bryce Young.

Carolina traded up to make Young the first overall pick in this year’s draft and his play has not lived up to that kind of billing to this point in his rookie season. That impression has not been helped by how well second overall pick C.J. Stroud has played in Houston and Panthers owner David Tepper was asked about the team’s belief in Young at a Tuesday press conference.

Tepper responded to a question about whether he pushed for Young to be the choice ahead of Stroud and said he believes the preference for Young was “unanimous” among members of the team’s football staff. He also said that the rough start to Young’s career has not led to a re-evaluation of his future with the team.

“We are totally confident in that pick,” Tepper said.

The Panthers will now have to hire a head coach who shares that conviction because they’ll be tying their career to Young the moment they accept the job in Carolina.
