Lions coach Dan Campbell said today that running back David Montgomery is still seeking medical opinions that might allow him to play this season despite a knee injury that was originally thought to be season-ending.
“David’s getting another opinion,” Campbell said. “He’s had a couple, and really just see what this third one says. That’s why we have not put him on injured reserve. We’re in waiting mode.”
Campbell had previously said Montgomery was done for the year, but today he said that if doctors believe the knee is stable enough that Montgomery won’t make it worse, and if Montgomery thinks he can play, he could still return.
“It is one of these injuries that’s unique because you need to know, is it stable?” Campbell said. “And then you need to rely on him, ‘I’m good, I can do this.’”
The Lions have been devastated by injuries this season, and now they’re crossing their fingers for some rare good news on the injury front.
