Matthew Slater was given one of the two spots reserved for special teamers in this year’s Pro Bowl, but the Patriots are going to the Super Bowl so Slater won’t be available after being selected for the game for the fourth straight year.
The Chargers announced that defensive back Darrell Stuckey has been named as Slater’s replacement for the game. It’s the first time that Stuckey has been selected for the Pro Bowl.
Stuckey has been a mainstay on special teams for the Chargers for the last four seasons and he’s served as a special teams captain for the last three campaigns.
Stuckey joins safety Eric Weddle as Chargers Pro Bowlers. Quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates were both selected for the initial roster, but won’t participate in the game.
