The NFL Players Association announced on Friday that Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton has been named their Community MVP for Week 16.
Slayton is being honored for an event he organized with his Left-Hand Right-Hand Foundation earlier this month. They hosted 24 families from football programs led by the New York Police Department for an event providing them with food, gifts and household needs.
“Giving back is something I was raised to do by my parents and something I have been able to do ever since I’ve been in the league,” Slayton said in a statement. “My family and I are always looking to reach back and help the communities we are a part of, and I am blessed to receive an award like this. I am looking forward to continuing my community work for the rest of my career and beyond.”
The NFLPA will donate $10,000 to Slayton’s foundation or the charity of his choice. He will also join the other weekly honorees in being eligible for the Alan Page Community Award at the end of the season.
