The Lions didn’t expect to need a replacement for cornerback Terrion Arnold on their defense this season, but that’s where they find themselves at the start of training camp.
Arnold was released last month after being arrested on armed robbery and kidnapping charges. Head coach Dan Campbell addressed the decision to part ways with the 2024 first-round pick when he spoke to reporters at a Wednesday press conference.
“It stinks. You never want to let go of a player — especially somebody that you’ve been around for a while here and you drafted and all that, and it’s unfortunate,” Campbell said, via Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com. “But we made the move we felt was best for us.”
Rock Ya-Sin, Roger McCreary, Ennis Rakestraw, Khalil Dorsey, Nick Whiteside, and fifth-round pick Keith Abney are in the mix for playing time alongside D.J. Reed at corner. Campbell said the Lions feel “very good” about those options.
