Dan Campbell: Kerby Joseph is dealing with a personal issue, but his rehab is coming along

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said today that safety Kerby Joseph has a personal issue in addition to rehabbing from last year’s knee injury.

Campbell didn’t go into specifics but indicated that Joseph’s knee is progressing as hoped.

“Kerby right now, first of all he’s dealing with a personal issue right now. But his rehab is coming along very well.”

Still, Campbell indicated that both of the Lions’ starting safeties — Joseph and Brian Branch — are unlikely to be on the field in Week One. Branch is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, and Campbell said Joseph’s timeline is similar to Branch in that both of them will probably get final clearance after the start of the regular season.

“I still see him on the Branch plan, if that makes sense, and Branch is doing well too,” Campbell said. “Those guys, we’re talking about on down the road, the season has already begun, but I like is where Kerby is at.”
