Dan Campbell confirms David Montgomey will have season-ending knee surgery

Running back David Montgomery’s first season with the Lions is over.

Word on Monday was that Montgomery has an MCL injury that might keep him out for the rest of the campaign and Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that Montgomery is done for the year at his press conference.

“Looks like he’s gonna require surgery that’ll put him out the rest of the year,” Campbell said. “He had gotten it at some point yesterday in that game. David’s so tough, man. He continued to play through and got it checked out today.”

The Lions also lost defensive tackle Alim McNeil, cornerback Carlton Davis, and defensive back Khalil Dorsey to injuries in Sunday’s loss to the Bills. They are added to an already long list of players sidelined for health reasons for a Detroit team that is going to need a bunch of players to step up if they’re going to be able to turn their strong start to the year into a strong finish.
