Defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins is the one that got away for the Packers. After the new deal he signed in Philadelphia Tuesday, Jenkins is the one that will stay away.
The 31-year-old’s restructured contract lasts for three more years. He was set to make $7.5 million in 2012, but that structure was set up to force a renegotiation.
We’re surprised how much Jenkins will still receive. He still gets a $5 million roster bonus according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, but his base salary was reduced to $800,000. So his 2012 pay will be $5.8 million.
That total is reflective of Jenkins’ strong play last season. Along with guard Evan Mathis, Jenkins may have given the most bang for the buck of any “Dream Team” signings.
Jenkins emerged as a vocal leader for the team last year and should start next to Mike Patterson next season. His deal saved the Eagles $1.68 million in additional cap space.
