Cowboys to wear blue jerseys at home for the first time in decades

Romo

For years, the Cowboys have worn white jerseys at home. The tactic has become so engrained that, at times, the team’s rivals have chosen to wear white at home, forcing the Cowboys to break out their blue “road” jerseys.

This Thanksgiving against the Raiders, the Cowboys will wear their blue jerseys at home for the first time in decades, according to Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com.

In recent years, the Cowboys have sported throwback uniforms on the fourth Thursday in November, with white helmets and white-and-blue jerseys. This year, thanks to the NFL rule that requires teams to use only one helmet all year, the Cowboys have opted to pair their silver helmets with their standard blue jerseys.

“I think everything is about putting players’ safety first and foremost,” Cowboys executive V.P. Stephen Jones said Tuesday. “I don’t know if it’s a given that moving one helmet to another is an issue, but we haven’t proven that it’s not either. But we’re always going to err on the side of safety. It’s going to give us a new look this year but sometimes there’s nothing wrong with that either. We’ll continue to look at that. It doesn’t mean you won’t see alternative helmets in the future. It’s just we want to make sure right now that we always err on the side of players’ safety until we’ve really dotted our i’s and crossed our t’s.”

And so the NFL will permit players to wear only one helmet for the entire season, even as more and more college teams break out a different helmet every freaking week.
