The Cowboys have added a quarterback to their roster ahead of Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Texans.
It’s Jerrod Johnson, who was waived by the Ravens earlier this week. Johnson appeared in two preseason games for Baltimore, going 2-for-8 for 19 yards and an interception. He’s also spent offseason or practice squad time with the Eagles, Steelers, Seahawks and Bears since leaving Texas A&M in 2011.
Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys website passed along word of the signing, which he believes is just to give the team another quarterback for Thursday night. Dak Prescott won’t play and Jameill Showers, who will start, is the only other healthy quarterback on the roster.
If that’s the case, the Cowboys will likely continue to look for someone to go behind Prescott on the depth chart while Tony Romo recovers from a broken bone in his back. The team had Austin Davis in for a workout, but it doesn’t appear he will be the choice for that role.
