Cowboys place RB Malik Davis on injured reserve

As expected, Cowboys running back Malik Davis will miss some time with a hip injury suffered at practice on Friday.

The team announced on Saturday that Davis has been placed on injured reserve. He’ll be required to miss at least four games.

Taking his spot on the active roster is running back Israel Abanikanda, who was signed from the practice squad. Abanikanda, a fifth-round pick of the Jets in 2023, first joined the Cowboys’ practice squad last November. He spent all of the offseason, training camp, and preseason on the 90-man roster before being waived on August 30.

Davis was undrafted in 2022. He has spent his entire career with the Cowboys. In 2025, he had 52 carries for 250 yards and two touchdowns.

The other running back on the active roster (other than starter Javonte Williams) is Emari Demarcado, who was claimed off waivers after being released by the Chiefs on August 30. He’s best known for dropping the ball early during what would have been a 72-yard touchdown run in a game the Cardinals were dominating against the Titans. Tennessee eventually won the game.

The Cowboys visit the Giants on Sunday night.
