Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is engaged to a signer named Ciara, who has a child with a rapper named Future. Ciara has sued Future for defamation after he publicly called her a bad mother. Now, in court filings recently made by Ciara, she suggests that Future has threatened to kill Wilson.

Via TMZ, Ciara’s lawyers mention in the documents a social-media posting by Future with a pair of football emojis followed by three gun emojis. The lawyers also point out a recent song from Future with these lyrics: “Try’na f--k my baby mama, dog what’s up with you? You gon’ make me get that heat, I’m pulling up on you.”

The filing also refers to Future’s behavior as “frightening and “socially irresponsible,” and points to a “recent rash of gun violence.”

While not directly relevant to the question of whether Future made untrue statements about Ciara that violate civil liability standards, as a public figure Ciara needs to prove that Future made untrue statements with malice. Threatening to kill the man she’s currently engaged to would potentially count as evidence of malice.

It’s an odd mess for Wilson to find himself in the middle of, given the carefully manicured image that he has developed over the years. That could be the least of Wilson’s worries, however, especially if the ongoing litigations and public allegations inflame the situation even more.
