Construction worker’s death halts work on Broncos’ training facility

Turner Construction has suspended work on the Broncos’ new training facility as police investigate the death of a worker.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for the worker’s family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and all those impacted by this tragedy,” the construction company said in a statement to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post.

Workers found the man, whose name has not been released, unresponsive in a “confined ceiling area” around 8:20 p.m. Monday, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. South Metro Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead.

“The Denver Broncos are heartbroken to learn a subcontractor working on our new training center passed away Monday while on-site,” the team said in a statement. “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the individual’s family, coworkers and friends during this difficult time.”

Construction on the $175 million facility began in 2024 and is scheduled for completion this summer. Broncos Park, according to a team release, is a “state-of-the-art, 205,000-square-foot, three-story facility that consolidates both football and business operations, featuring a player-centric first floor designed for maximum efficiency, a mass-timber design, and an underground parking garage.”
