Commanders convert Michael Penix’s interception into a 7-0 lead

Michael Penix’s mistake turned into a Commanders lead.

Penix, making his second career start, and wide receiver Chris Blair were not on the same page on third-and-9 from the Atlanta 47. Instead of hitting Blair for a first down, Penix threw the pass straight to defensive back Quan Martin, who returned it 29 yards to the Atlanta 38 before Ray-Ray McCloud and Penix made the tackle.

It took seven plays for the Commanders to go 38 yards.

On fourth-and-2, Jayden Daniels threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Olamide Zaccheaus. Daniels rolled right before hitting Zaccheaus, who got behind safety Jessie Bates.

Daniels was 4-of-5 for 35 yards in the drive.

The Commanders lead 7-0.
