Shaun Hill is out of the game for the Rams with a calf injury after a poor first half and now the Rams are without one of their best defensive players.

Defensive end Chris Long left the game in the third quarter after being rolled up at the end of a Vikings run. Long headed back to the locker room after a short period with the trainers on the sideline. FOX Sports reported that Long had the tape cut off his ankle before heading to the back for further evaluation.

Long and the Rams defense did well to keep the Vikings out of the end zone for much of the first half before finally cracking after an interception set the Vikes up just before the half. Losing Long would hurt their efforts to support Austin Davis’s attempt to get them back into the game.

Davis led the Rams to their first points of the season on their first possession of the second half and the Rams defense was able to hold after Long left the game with a lot of thanks to a botched third down snap by the Vikings.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m. ET: Long’s return from an ankle injury is called questionable by the Rams.
