Chris Houston uses Calvin Johnson to prepare for big tasks

Not many people covering Calvin Johnson come out of the transaction looking good.

But Lions cornerback Chris Houston hopes it helps when it’s time to cover people not Calvin Johnson.

“He’s the best wide receiver in the game,” Houston told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “He’s giving you hell day in and day out, and it’s training camp.

“We have to face guys like Brandon Marshall, Larry Fitzgerald, so he’s preparing us for that. That’s what I go to practice thinking about.”

Of course, it’s hard when you’re going through it. Birkett said Houston walked off the practice field shaking his head recently, saying: “God should have given me 4 more inches. Do you know what it’s like to hold Calvin Johnson every day? It’s hell.”

Houston better get ready, because he’ll be drawing opponents’ top receivers all year.

After cutting Aaron Berry just before the start of camp, the Lions are left with nothing but questions at the other corner, meaning the pressure will fall squarely on the 5-foot-11 Houston.
