Chip Kelly is not going to be the Florida coach.
Amid reports that Florida wants to lure Kelly away from the Eagles and make him the next coach of the Gators, Kelly said today that he’s going nowhere and will not listen to any offer.
“Florida hasn’t contacted me. And if they did, I wouldn’t listen. It’s false. I think false things are silly,” Kelly said. “My whole mantra is be where your feet are. I’m right here, and I’m not concerned about anything else. I’m very happy being here now.”
Of course, coaches lie about their intentions all the time. Most notably, then-Dolphins coach Nick Saban said, “I’m not going to be the Alabama coach” shortly before he became the Alabama coach. And Kelly has been known to change his mind, too: He said he was staying at Oregon shortly before he took the Eagles job.
But from all indications, Kelly’s goal is to win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia. Not an NCAA championship in Florida, or anywhere else.
