Former Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson is visiting the Giants on Sunday and that’s not the only visit he’s reportedly lined up since getting released last week.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Johnson is scheduled to visit with the Buccaneers after he meets with the Giants.
The Bucs are very familiar with Johnson after nine years in the same division and their interest in speaking to him makes sense given the need to upgrade the pass rush in Tampa. Linebacker Kwon Alexander said after the end of the 2015 season that the team is “going to need that pressure” in order to stop Cam Newton in 2016 and they may wind up with one of Newton’s old teammates helping to spearhead that effort.
Johnson missed much of last season with a hamstring injury and ended the year with one sack, but he has 63.5 for his career and shouldn’t be out of work long given the eternal desire for pass rushers around the league.
